NHTSA: Drunk Driving is on the Decline While Drug Use Increases

February 10, 2015 By: Trucking News Staff Tags: News, Regulations, Safety No Comments

A pair of new studies from the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), shows that while the nation is winning in its ongoing battle against drunk driving, the use of marijuana and prescription drugs is on the climb on our highways, creating new safety questions.

One of the studies— the latest version of NHTSA’s Roadside Survey of Alcohol and Drug Use by Drivers — found that the number of drivers with alcohol in their system has declined by nearly one-third since 2007, and by more than three-quarters since the first Roadside Survey in 1973.

The Christmas Truce…

The Christmas Truce
by David G. Stratman

From his book We Can Change the World

Inspirational Christmas Story
It was December 25, 1914, only 5 months into World War I, German, British, and French soldiers, already sick and tired of the senseless killing, disobeyed their superiors and fraternized with “the enemy” along two-thirds of the Western Front (a crime punishable by death in times of war). German troops held Christmas trees up out of the trenches with signs, “Merry Christmas.”

Inspirational Story Reveals True Meaning of Christmas

Christmas stories.
The short, inspirational Christmas story below reveals the true spirit and meaning of Christmas. It was originally published in the December 14, 1982 issue of Woman’s Day magazine. This moving story inspired the creation of The White Envelope Project, a caring nonprofit organization dedicated to developing the next generation of givers, civic leaders, and philanthropists.

May this inspirational story remind us all of the true meaning of Christmas and giving during the holidays and throughout the year.
